Chateau in Saint-Quintin-sur-Sioule
In the Ebreuil area, this exceptional castle dating from the 12th to 17th centuries, in perfect condition, is situated on the banks of a river on the borders of the Allier and Puy de Dôme departments. The château comprises :
Ground floor: an entrance hall leading to the majestic 68 sqm lounge with its magnificent Gothic fireplace, beamed ceiling and French windows opening onto the parklands. Next door, the 29sqm study with its remarkable 17th century paintings by Isaac Moillon. The 27sqm library with its solid wood cupboards. The 28 sqm dining room with its fireplace and superbly painted ceiling is one of the château’s must-see rooms. The kitchen is equipped to a very modern standard in a vaulted room with a beautiful stone fireplace. Office.
First floor: a spiral staircase leads up to a gallery with five bedrooms (29, 29, 28, 24 and 19 sqm), two bathrooms with toilet and two shower rooms, one of which has a toilet. The master bedroom has a large dressing room. This floor has been renovated in a contemporary style while retaining the most significant period features (fireplaces, ceilings, wall decorations).
Second floor: two bedrooms (33 and 21 sqm), each with its own shower room and toilet.
On the main building, a 70 sqm attic can be converted under a magnificent roof frame.
Basement: boiler room and wine cellar.
The outbuildings :
The chapel, probably built before the 11th century and converted in the 12th century, still has an apse and two apsidioles in good condition and some quite remarkable decorative features. The central nave needs to be restored in its entirety, including the roof and framework, which have now collapsed.
In the first building :
– A 7 sqm flat comprising a 24 sqm living room, a large entrance hall, kitchen, utility room and bathroom.
– A duplex flat for friends. The ground floor comprises a 16 sqm dining room, a kitchen, two bedrooms (14 sqm and 13 sqm) and a bathroom. A terrace affords lovely views of the château. Upstairs is a huge 59m² living room with a superb exposed roof frame and feature fireplace. There are four bedrooms of 15, 21, 21 and 26 sqm, each with its own shower room and toilet.
A second building comprises five garages, a large covered courtyard and machine rooms.
There is a caretaker’s cottage at the edge of the property with its farm buildings, as well as various lean-tos in the vegetable garden.
At the far end of the grounds, there is a tennis court as well as a heated swimming pool with its equipment room concealed in a tower.
The grounds of the château overlook the river (classified 1st category for its trout fishing) via a long terrace and benefit from a pretty formal garden with beautiful ornamental trees. There are superb views of the château and the river. The property runs alongside the river for more than a kilometre on the main section and for more than 500 metres on the other side, making the banks completely private. The hillsides are covered in game-filled woods (10 ha). There is a large vegetable garden / orchard of 4000 sqm and meadows of 1ha.
The property is at the end of a dead-end road. The setting is exceptional, on the banks of a 1st category river and in a Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF). There are no nuisances to complain about and it’s absolutely peaceful. A village with all local shops and services is 4 kilometres from the château. The A71 motorway is 7 km away. The mainline SNCF train stations at Vichy and Riom are around thirty kilometres away.
