Description

Set in an area of over 6 hectares and 1.2 km from the coast, this exceptional manor house offers 350 sqm of comfortable living space behind its high facades.

Built in the 14th and 15th centuries, it has preserved its original structure, a long manor house opening onto a south-facing courtyard with “upset cobblestones”, bordered by outbuildings and guarded by a medieval gate with machicolation.

The rare conservation of this architectural ensemble and the elegance of the façade and its dormer windows have justified inscription in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments. Over the past 50 years, its current owners have invested all their energy in restoring it to its original state, carrying out traditional work on the building and roofs, as well as on the soberly decorated interior. Monumental fireplaces, a spiral staircase, a salt cellar and a pastry oven are all still in place, contributing to the building’s historic character.

On the ground floor, paved with large grouted granite slabs, the large 80 sqm hall, luminous under its high ceilings, has already hosted concerts and exhibitions. A beautiful dining room and a large kitchen occupy the rest of the space, with their monumental fireplaces, the old washing stone, the salt cellar and the small original defensive windows.

The wide spiral staircase occupies the vigorous rear tower and serves several levels around a large landing lined with traditional arched openings. The first level, the upper bedroom, is just over 50 sqm in size, and features an inverted hull ceiling reconstructed using traditional carpentry techniques. The first floor also includes two good-sized bedrooms and a bathroom.

The east wing has been converted into a self-contained dwelling with a living room, bathroom and a separate staircase leading to two bedrooms on the upper levels.

The setting is remarkable. Climb the steps to the top of the gate, and you’ll discover a panoramic view of the countryside and the sea. The 6 hectares are crossed by a river feeding a pond, and are made up of moorland and mainly woodland where 3,000 deciduous trees have been planted in full growth.

This peaceful, but not isolated property offers a quality of life in keeping with Breton history and culture.

An enchantment at the end of the world. It is difficult not to succumb to the charm of Brittany and not to be seduced by these lands born from the whims of water, wind and time.
